The 2025 TSC Transition Webinar Series will provide parents, caregivers and adults with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) with recommendations and resources that provide timelines and supports available, so they know how and when to start preparing for the transition to adulthood. The series is co-hosted by Mass General Brigham and the Herscot Center for TSC, and presented by Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Nobelpharma and Upsher-Smith Laboratories, LLC. 

This six-part webinar series will highlight specific topics related to the transition process, including financial planning, TSC-Associated Neuropsychiatric Disorders (TAND) and the psychological impact on caregivers of semi-independent and dependent adults.

The series kicked off on February 13, 2025, with a webinar featuring Elizabeth Thiele, MD, PhD, Director, Pediatric Epilepsy Program; Director, Carol and James Herscot Center for Tuberous Sclerosis Complex at Massachusetts General Hospital and Professor of Neurology, Harvard Medical School. The webinar focused on the Transition of medical care from the pediatric to adult health system and how to use a transition toolkit. A recording of the first webinar can be viewed below.

 

The second webinar in the series took place on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at 8 pm ET and featured Kelly Piacenti, MA, ChSNC, a Chartered Special Needs Consultant® from MassMutual SpecialCare discussing critical considerations for individuals of all ages who have a disability. This webinar reviewed the importance of creating a life care plan, how it can help, and who should be involved. Participants learned crucial information and tools to help prepare for your loved one’s financial future, including government benefits, special needs trusts, ABLE accounts, and other legal and financial structures and considerations. The third webinar in the series took place on Tuesday June 17, 2025 at 7 pm ET and featured Kelly Piacenti, MA, ChSNC, a Chartered Special Needs Consultant® from MassMutual SpecialCare and Jerry L. Hulick, CLU, ChFC, ChSNC, CLTC from The Washington Group Special Care Planning Team to discuss Maximizing Independence and Financial Security: A Comprehensive Guide to ABLE Accounts for Individuals with Disabilities. The fourth webinar in the series took place on Thursday, August 21. In this webinar participants learned information around understanding eligibility for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), what changes at age 18, navigating the application and appeal process and how income and assets can affect eligibility and benefits. Whether your child is approaching adulthood or you’re beginning to explore available supports, this session provides clear guidance, resources, and next steps to help you plan for the future with confidence. The fifth webinar in the series took place on Wednesday October 15, 2025 and featured Jamie Capal, MD, as she discussed TAND and its impact on the transition from pediatric to adult care which can be particularly challenging in tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). This period often coincides with the emergence or worsening of neuropsychiatric symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and social difficulties. A recording of this webinar can be viewed below.
