The TSC Alliance is thrilled to announce we received a generous $1 million gift from Carol Herscot to support tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) research, in honor of her son Bradley Jay Herscot and in memory of her husband James S. Herscot. This foundational investment will advance impactful initiatives aimed at changing the course of TSC and improving the lives of those impacted by the disease.

“Carol Herscot has long been a champion for the TSC community. Her advocacy for adult care was a catalyst for so many of the changes we have seen today. This extraordinary donation will have similar impact on our ability to move the most promising research forward and to build a pipeline of potential new treatments for TSC,” says Kari Luther Rosbeck, President and CEO of the TSC Alliance. “We are deeply moved and incredibly grateful to Carol for this profound gift.”

Carol has been involved with the TSC Alliance since the early days of the organization, serving on the Board of Directors from 1999 to 2005. Carol shared, “The friendships made while on the board have enriched my life. We all worked hard and played hard, supported one another and encouraged one another. For this I am so grateful. We formed a very close bond that still exists today.”

Carol’s son Brad has TSC, and Carol has long advocated for greater awareness of TSC among the general public and medical professionals, improved support systems for individuals and families impacted as well as expanded clinical care throughout the lifespan. Carol and her late husband Jim worked hand in hand with Dr. Elizabeth Thiele as founders of the Herscot Center for TSC at Massachusetts General Hospital. Their work has been ground-breaking, and this gift emphasizes the urgency and importance of creating new treatments for TSC.
